Statistical Learning Reading Group
Term 2 2012, UC, Ilam
This reading group is organized by Raazesh Sainudiin. Our objective is to learn the rudiments of statistical learning from an applied and theoretical perspective from Elements of Statistical Learning by Trevor Hastie, Robert Tibshirani and Jerome Friedman. We will start reading the PDF file of their book (5th printing with corrections, Feb 2011).
Another classic book on learning from an informaiton-theoretic perspective (that is free for online reading) is Information Theory, Inference, and Learning Algorithms by David MacKay. You can also start reading the PDF copy of this book to get another perspective on learning problems.
