PRIMER SERIES Friday, 30 May 2014 4.10pm Erskine 031 Patrick W Saart School of Mathematics & Statistics, University of Canterbury Title: Non and Semiparametric Methods for Regression Analysis: a Tale of (the land in between) Two Cities Abstract In this seminar, I will explain nonparametric and semiparametric methods for regression analysis metaphorically as the area of research that fitted right between two main disciplines, namely Statistics and Econometrics. I will explain a few models and results that are available in the literature. Furthermore, I will give a number of special topics in the area which are of particular interest at present day. Throughout the talk I will also mention about how these methods are applied to various other disciplines, including Climatology, Biostatistics, Criminology, etc. My talk will partially based on one of my recent paper "Semiparametric Methods in Nonlinear Time Series Analysis: A Selective Review".
